A-Space, where secret people hang out
Secret people like the CIA that is. This December, the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) will be following the national Web 2.0 trend and plans to roll out a social networking platform called A-Space to tie the secret communities into a secret knot and connect people and agencies. This newly adopted technology will hopefully improve remote location communication, after hours communications and ease sharing challenges that affect an agency’s individual contributor’s ability to communicate. Broad based security like firewalls and restricted dialing make socializing even harder for the spy and intelligence communities and information sharing more complex.
In addition to the social networking applications, the site will also allow the intelligence community to access the national intelligence library. The intelligence community has already stood up to a web 2.0 style private wiki, similar to wikipedia, named Intellipedia.

 Chris Rasmussen
|
You can’t join A-Space or view Intellipedia without approval. But, if you want to learn more about what the Intelligence Community is doing with social networking come hear Chris Rasmussen speak during the government track of the Web 2.0 for Business conference on November 1st. Rasmussen is a knowledge manager and trainer within the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC). He is an exceptional speaker and thought leader on Web 2.0 technologies such as Intellipedia (wiki), blogs, tag connect (social bookmarking service), mashups, etc. that will provide a transparent and effective way to exchange knowledge over the IC enterprise.

Steven Preston
Administrator
Small Business Administration
Steven Preston is the administrator of the Small Business Administration. Last year, Preston announced new rules that require companies with federal contracts to recertify that they qualify as small businesses. The new rules, which took effect in June, mean that agencies can no longer claim contracts are small business-qualified if those businesses have been acquired by large businesses. We discuss the new rule change, his top priorities, and what he wants his legacy to be when he leaves office.

- August 29 - Cracking Crabs with Local Tech Executives
This past Wednesday I attended the Tech Council of Maryland’s 3rd Annual Ultimate Crab Feast and Summer Networking Event at Smokey Glen Farm Barbequers, Inc. And before you get any funny ideas, I was there purely to find out what some of the areas leading technology companies and executives were up to and network a little. The fact that all-you-can eat Maryland crabs were featured, along with Texas Beef Brisket and BBQ Chicken was, in all honesty, a refreshing surprise.
