Vicente Fox to Speak at POC
 Vicente Fox
|
|
It is rare, and an honor, to have a former head of state like Vicente Fox as an upcoming speaker at the Potomac Officers Club on October 11th. Fox served as President of Mexico from 2000 to 2006 in a historically significant election. Fox’s unlikely defeat of the dominant IRP (Institutional Revolutionary Party) brought new promise to the county of Mexico. Educated at Harvard’s School of Business and a former president of Coca-Cola of Mexico, Fox brought a keen business sense to his presidency. Register for Vicente Fox. This event is expected to sell out early. This event is made possible by our sponsors Ernst & Young and Hogan & Hartson.
He changed out Mexico’s cabinet using American style of head-hunters, grew registered taxpayers by 35% and maintained a check on inflation which was 11% upon taking office and 4.1% upon his exit. Fox was well known for his successful election slogan of “Hoy! Hoy! Hoy!” (Today Today Today) against opponents he claimed wanted to put things off to “Mañana” (Tomorrow).

The Wisdom of Crowds Author to Speak at Nov. 1 Web Conference
James Surowiecki, staff writer for The New Yorker and author of The Wisdom of the Crowds, will speak at the New New Internet’s Web 2.0 for Business Conference this November 1st extolling the virtues of large group collective intelligence and its impact on Web 2.0 applications.
The next generation of the web is being driven by the internet community and their collective web 2.0 wisdom. The movement already underway will impact business and be a seismic paradigm shift that democratizes the web.
In the first pages of his best selling book, Surowiecki uses the game show Who Wants to be a Millionaire as an example of his theory in action. Followers of the show will remember the lifeline that allowed a struggling contestant to poll the audience for help with a question. Surowiecki’s wisdom of the crowds theory applies this spirit of collective intelligence to a variety of business cases and social trends. Read more about the book on the ExecutiveBiz blog.
